About the Performance
Gather your fellowship and join Art of the Score for an epic journey through Howard Shore’s music of Middle-earth.
The Lord of the Rings films feature some of the greatest scores ever composed, and in this concert you will hear them like never before – led by conductor Nicholas Buc and unpacked by popular podcasters Art of the Score.
Experience the scale and emotional depth of Howard Shore’s score as a soprano soloist soars alongside a children’s choir, a full chorus and the full power of the orchestra. Featuring live demonstrations of the music, explore how this Academy Award-winning music brought Tolkien’s vast and sprawling worlds to life and became an unforgettable element of Peter Jackson’s beloved films.
From the charming Concerning Hobbits to the thrilling drama of The Bridge of Khazad-dûm and the uneasy embrace of Lothlórien, Art of the Score will take you there and back again.
The Sydney Symphony Orchestra performed the concert to four audiences at the Sydney Opera House in July 2026 (click here). A shorter education performance can be added with no extra rehearsals.
This performance does not feature any screens or film footage.
